I recently attended a dinner where a franchise owner of a fast food restaurant spoke. The owner had been in business for several years, 25+, and told of some of the trials she encountered along the way. She was a very engaging speaker and I enjoyed it very much. After she spoke it was question time. A person in the audience was the owner of a one-year old hair salon. Her question was, “How do you go home and not take the stress and worry of the business with you?” The speaker’s answer was, “you always take it home but something that would help is to turn off your cell phone.”
Well, I agree with what she said about turning off the cell phone but there are other processes that came to my mind where the owner might benefit also. Here are some of my thoughts:
Do you have a business plan? If not, start today and put your vision and dreams in writing. It will help you to see the objectives that need to be achieved.
Join a CEO Roundtable group. It helps to meet with others that have the same type of issues.
If no CEO Roundtable, bring in a professional you can trust. Whether it is a business coach, advisor, or financial advisor. Do not hold back on the cost of good advice. They will become your confidante and friend, and will bring good advice and guidance for your business and you personally.
If you do not want professional help, reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce. They usually have a Small Business Center and have access to information that will help you to work through different processes in running a business.
As a business owner, I truly believe in a business plan. I have one for my business also. Mine is not for borrowing money but for giving me guidance as I try to grow my business to the level I have projected. I also have a marketing plan that is in constant state of change. Planning will not stop the stress and the worry, but it will help you to know what your next step is in the process. It helps to have your plans in writing, in your words, and share it with others. They are adaptable to the ever-changing growth and curves in your business. Refer to them frequently (monthly is good, weekly is awesome!). It is unbelievable how many businesses start without a plan. Start today! You have probably heard this—
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!
Listed above are no sure-fire cures for stress and worry but it is a start on knowing what you need to do to accomplish your dreams. If you feel you are not heading in the right direction, modify your initiatives and plans. Dream big and plan to succeed!

Release all meaningless activities. Do you need to read the newspaper and listen to or watch the news every day? Is what you read, listen to or watch helping you create a positive attitude and the realization that through your own efforts and positive thinking anything is possible? So often the negativity of the news drains our optimism and makes us feel helpless in light of seemingly endless wars, calamities and insurmountable problems around the world. If you’re not going to personally get involved with one of these issues, give them no attention.
Release all unnecessary possessions. You’ll have to determine what is necessary for you. Those in the householder stage with children will have different requirements than empty nesters. Our true wealth is not determined by what we possess, but by what does not possess us. Our true wealth is not determined by what we have, but by what we can live happily without. That which we possess needs to be looked after. This takes time and energy; time and energy that could go elsewhere if we had less stuff.
Put your time and energy where your heart is. So often we do things because others expect them of us. Do these activities make us happy? Do they fulfil us? We need to listen to and follow our hearts. Then the whole world supports our every step, we are guided by coincidences, and we find true peace and happiness.
Grow some food of your own, preferably organically. In the supermarket of today we rarely know where our food comes from or how it’s been grown. Some crops are sprayed more than ten times before they are harvested and the chemical residues are absorbed when we eat them. It’s not difficult to create a little vegetable garden and/or plant a few fruit trees. Apartment dwellers can grow micro greens in pots using plants like garlic, onions, buckwheat and lentils. Not only will you eat healthier food, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint and doing your bit to improve the health of the planet.
Get out of your car and onto your feet. How far do you drive to work? Could you find employment closer to home, or even at home? Time now spent in the car could be used getting exercise if you were able to walk or cycle to work. You’d feel better, lose those unwanted pounds and, again, be reducing your carbon footprint.
Discover natural ways to stay healthier. Rather than just relying on prescriptions from the doctor, heed the advice of Hippocrates: ‘Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.’ So often the side effects of medicines are virtually identical to the symptoms they are prescribed to treat. Read books on natural healing or take courses to upscale your knowledge on how to look after yourself. You’ll save unnecessary trips to the doctor and you’ll feel better mentally, emotionally and physically.
A simple life is a balanced life, relying on a careful, dynamic interplay between activity and rest. It’s not for nothing Native Americans sometimes call modern civilization ‘Termite People’ because we are forever scurrying about. Look closely at the word ‘business’—‘busy-ness’. We often wear our ‘busy-ness’ like a badge. When someone asks if we are busy, it is expected that we are. Life is a delicate balance between activity and rest. Find that balance.
Put the above ideas in place and your life will be simpler, healthier, richer and more satisfying. This is an organic process, meaning that results come at the right time (which may or may not correspond with your expectations). Just concentrate on thinking and living more simply and leave the results and timing to God.
John Haines is the author of In Search of Simplicity, a startlingly poignant and inspiring real-life endorsement of the power of thought, belief and synchronicity in one’s life.

Is there clutter in your life. Many people are in the habit of going shopping when they are depressed. This of course will not remove their feeling of depression, it will only make them feel better for but a moment because of a fake feeling of “acquiring” something or “acquiring what getting something” make them feel at the moment. Of Course it’s not the acquisition of stuff that makes us feel happy. This is just a game we play to fill an emptiness that this much deeper than material.
You may have found yourself so attached to an object that you become overwhelmed with the memories you associate with the object. This object has become part of yourself and you can’t let it go. As a matter of fact this object is just a memory which reminds you of past better days. This object is not you.
The problem with this is that your present becomes “nothing” and all your mind is plunged in the past with past memories and past objects reminding you of those memories. This pattern of thoughts can NEVER bring you happiness. Happiness is in the NOW, not in the past. If you live in the past your present will suffer. As a matter of fact as some writers of the subconscious mind have written before, the past doesn’t exist. The past existed when it was then the present, but now it’s gone. We ONLY live in the present, never in the past. Only the present exists.
hanging onto a memory of happiness, actually makes you unhappy because you are less present now. Let go of the clutter of the past memories and live more in the present; this will improve your life NOW and for years to come as your present will become the past and your future will have a solid base because of it when it will become present.

Abraham Lincoln said “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.”
This means, that he would spend twice as much time working on himself as he would on the task itself. If you want to progress in life, no matter what your occupation may be; you need to work on YOURSELF, on you own self development MORE than anything else. Because when you do anything else it would come into place much easier.
Why do people go see therapists? It’s because instead of putting their mental health and development into their OWN hands, they’d rather put it into the hands of someone else .
The truth is you can achieve self development for your personal and financial life yourself on your own. As a matter of fact the therapist doesn’t do it for you, YOU do it YOURSELF. That’s right you don’t have to do it on your own, but you can do it yourself. Think about it, no one can do for you. In today’s world you can find ALL the self help books and programs you could ever dream of.
Do they really work? If you just read the book or get the program, and forget all about it later as if you’ve never heard from them, than the answer is, NO, they won’t work for you. However, if you get into the habit of learning precious truths and tips about success in life and APPLY what you’ve learned, the answer is, YES, it does work and it has made a HUGE difference for me any thousands of other people who have applied techniques of personal development.
Personal development is what can make your life not only better, but change your life completely around. Is it worth it t get into a personal development habit? How much do you value the quality of your life?
